It was clear to me the game ended when Fulmer opted to punt the ball away at 4th & 1. Not going for it spoke volumes. The game clearly went down hill from there. Any spark that the team had put together during the first half had been extinguished.

My hats off to Nick Stephens, he had some great passes. No interceptions, a couple close calls though. He probably would have been even better had Fulmer started playing him much sooner. Yet another bonehead move on his part. Too bad they ran Randy Sanders off, he could really be an asset to this young man. At least the “G-gun” was limited.

While the defense stood tough, there are some issues there too. The coverage there is also too predicable. But they did play hard for as long as they could. Plays on both sides of the ball are just old and stale.

The rumbling in this house are that Fulmer will be gone after this, sadly, I don’t think so. Some of the other rumblings are not fit for print. I had a momentary flash of Mike Hamilton burning up the phone lines trying to find a new coach, but it was just a brief glimmer of hope. It tough to be a Vol in Alabama.

We made it to the O&W game, but not the Fanfare portion. It wasn’t that we didn’t get there early enough, the line was wrapped around the block when we got there. If we would have stood in the line, we probably would not have gotten to the gate before 1PM – which of course was when it was supposed to end. So instead, we decided to go ahead and get seats, skipping the Vol Walk too. Opted to go up the ramp – that gate was much faster than the lower level gate. Was happy to see the concession stands open too.

Got to watch 4 players do “stadium stairs” – so what type of “rehab” was it

Seems I wasn’t the only one keeping up with who scored – what a crazy format. Why not have the first team offense play the first team defense? Now that would have been a game! Only one play caught my eye, definitely need to mix up that spread offense.

I took 464 pictures that I have to go through and pick out the publish worthy ones to share.

My gut feeling is that the Old Ball Coach is going to school the Dean of the SEC in football. I love this line from Drew Edwards of the Knoxville News Sentinel: “The Vols need a win to avoid joining Vanderbilt in last place.” The Vols are needing a lot more than that. They need a coach that believes in the players. Twice now I’ve felt like Fulmer has given up on the team. Sure I understand sometimes you don’t want to go for it on a short 4th down because you could give up good field position – but heck, you were giving Alabama good field position on punt returns. Go for it – send a message to team that you believe in them.

If Fulmer likes to run the ball as Mr. Edwards claims his does, then why didn’t he let them run the ball against Alabama? Has anybody noticed what Randy Sanders has done for Kentucky? Did the wrong baby in the bath water get thrown out? Way too many questions and not enough answers.
