It’s Official – Phil Fulmer Will Step Aside

In a letter from Mike Hamilton to UT Football Fans he stated that “Coach Fulmer announced he will step aside at the conclusion of the football season.” Sounds like he had a little push, as Coach Fulmer said during the 5PM news conference “I accept the university’s decision that this will be my last as Tennessee’s head football coach.”

Now the search for a new coach begins and then the rebuilding of a Tradition.

The headline that my husband and a large continent of the Big Orange faithful have been clamoring for has come to fruition “Sources: Fulmer agrees to step down as Vols coach” – it’s not official yet but it looks like Head Football Coach Phillip Fulmer is on the way out. A press conference with Mike Hamilton and Coach Fulmer is to be held at 5PM Eastern time. So the eyes and ears of the Vol Nation will be directed towards Knoxville. Looks like even the Crimson Beastmonger himself, Paul Finebaum will have his ears open, too bad his website is unavailable:

I guess the rammer jammers are eating it up. So now we wait to find out the fate of Phil Fulmer and the Tennessee Vols Football program.

Fulmer Resigns

That’s the headline my huband looks for every morning when he goes online to read the news form Knoxville. Instead we find something like Fulmer is going to wait to review the films before he announces the QB for Saturday’s game. Headlines like that make me thing that Fulmer needs an Optometrist, because he sure can’t see what we see. Does that mean that both of them were equally bad? Then they keep blaming Foster for the fumble that resulted in the Auburn touchdown. Hmmm, even CBS’s Verne Lundquist could see it.

For what it’s worth, my fantasy headline “Pearl & Summit Team Up To Coach Tennessee Football Team”, followed by “Pearl & Summit Take Fulmer Out Behind The Woodshed”. Other fun headlines ” Tennessee – Georgia Game Moved To Oct 31, Georgia Will ‘Blackout’ – The Vols Will Wear All Orange.”

Still Not Up For The Game

My gut feeling is that the Old Ball Coach is going to school the Dean of the SEC in football. I love this line from Drew Edwards of the Knoxville News Sentinel: “The Vols need a win to avoid joining Vanderbilt in last place.” The Vols are needing a lot more than that. They need a coach that believes in the players. Twice now I’ve felt like Fulmer has given up on the team. Sure I understand sometimes you don’t want to go for it on a short 4th down because you could give up good field position – but heck, you were giving Alabama good field position on punt returns. Go for it – send a message to team that you believe in them.

If Fulmer likes to run the ball as Mr. Edwards claims his does, then why didn’t he let them run the ball against Alabama? Has anybody noticed what Randy Sanders has done for Kentucky? Did the wrong baby in the bath water get thrown out? Way too many questions and not enough answers.
